A site owner often makes search engine queries for a semantic kernel or a review of competitors. It is not possible to manually check all site positions, especially if you have more than 100 keywords. That’s why we check selectively the most important search engine queries for snippet analysis or just for showing the website in the top search engine results through Google search.
If you want a massive check of your keyword positions you can use the service: seranking.com. Some people don’t know why manually checking positions can differ from keyword positions received via the service SE Ranking.
There are some causes of different website rankings, but here are the basic ones:
Location. Google takes into consideration the target region with help of IP address. You should know that different target regions have different search engine rankings.
Your operating system and model of device for Internet access. For example, if you are looking for the search query “to order pizza” on your smartphone, then you can get those sites that have the mobile version of the smartphone display.
Personalized Search. This is the most significant contribution to search engine rankings. Each user has different search engine results. Search engines use the information according to your previous statistics of search engine queries, and also information about you from your email account and social networks.
You should get that the SE Ranking service like other ranking services show average search engine positions that relates to the average static user who first started to check keyword rankings. If you constantly go to your website and search for new search engine results, analyzing search suggestions, the search engine results will get personalized. If you want to get objective search engine rankings, you should switch off personalized search and stay anonymous in your browser without saving cookies.
How Does Google Personalized Search Work?
Google first began experiments to attract social factors in order to form search engine results. The first attempts were unsuccessful. In 2008 users were given the opportunity to vote for the sites, and then remove uninteresting addresses or add the sites you like with comments. However, this project – SearchWiki – was closed a half of that year later on.
In 2010, they tried to vote for your favorite sites with asterisks, but this idea did not stick. But users of Google Chrome browser were able to make their own search engine results, just blocking unwanted sites (this statistics with blocking sites was collected for general rankings).
Finally, at the end of 2011 the social network Google + was completed, and they chose to vote for sites with the button +1. In January 2012, Google announced the function «Search Plus Your World» and all registered Google users got search engine results with the statistics of their interests, as well as the recommendations of their friends. Everything can be customizable, but personalized search was turned on by default for all Google users.
- Your sex, age and other data from your Google account affect search engine results, as well as the preferences of your friends from the social network Google+ and your target region: Google.com or Google.com.ua or other domains.
- If you log in, probably, some factors will be taken into consideration for personalized search results on the basis of data about you from your Google account (until you clean cookies).
- Even if you don’t have a Google account, but you sometimes use it: Google robot is still collecting the statistics, analyzing which sites you open and close quickly, other factors you’re your prompt reaction while you are searching something.
- So, the personalized search will be absolutely imposed on all users and you can’t totally get rid of it, even if you clean permanent cookies, because there are other ways to collect statistics from your computer and browser for the last 180 days.
There is the button to hide private results in Google, but it is always included by default.
How to Hide Private Results in Google
Behavioral factors more and more influence the site rankings and search engine suggestions. Everything is used to improve search engine results for each user individually and show them PPC that improves sales for advertisers. So if you are interested in football than you will see on all site contextually targeted advertising about football. To turn off private results in Google, you can do in Google account settings, but it is unlikely to help you get rid of contextually targeted advertising. To exclude the collection of your private results in search engines you should come to a maximum of anonymity. At least you should make sure you are not logged into the social network, log out from your Google account.
Change your location in the search settings to the desired region or just tick “Don’t clarify my location”.
Keep in mind that the IP- address of your computer will still affect the SERP results that’s why it is better to use the proxy server (you can specify a region in the search settings).
You should search results in a new browser window (when switching off cookies), because Google will still collect statistics and subsequent requests will be still personalized.
Manage the URL address in your search: there are teams for local search engine results which you can remove or add (for example, in Google there is the team &pws=0, you change figures at the end of the address).
Clean and turn off cookies – turn off the feature Incognito Mode in Google Chrome, but it is better to use Mozilla Firefox in a private mode. Ideally, you shouldn’t log in at all on websites (some sites use Google API and also from social networks).
If you follow these rules listed above, you can view search engine results more similar to the data of service statistics collection. However, there is no need to stay anonymous with Google as personalized search really helps to save time.
There is no need to check site positions manually as it takes much time and if you get frequent search queries search engines offer to enter “captcha” (protection from robots).
In general, all webmasters use automated services to collect statistics of all keywords as it is more convenient and objective. SE Ranking offers a Free trial period for two weeks that everyone can estimate the convenience of the service and work with several sites with a large number of keywords.
